On May 16, GAC Aion, CATL, and CATL's subsidiary CAES signed a framework agreement on battery swapping cooperation.
Under the agreement, the parties will make the best of GAC Aion's leading market position and brand advantages, CATL's leading battery technology and industry resources, and CAES' expertise in equipment development, operational management, and software platform development to promote battery swapping for EVs. The collaboration will encompass areas such as the development of vehicle models for battery swapping; development, production, and distribution of battery blocks; data management for vehicles and batteries; vehicle warranty and after-sales service. Through this collaboration, the parties will jointly promote the sales of GAC Aion's battery swapping vehicles and offer users a more efficient and convenient battery-swapping experience.
GAC Aion, as the primary arm of GAC Group's new energy business, was the world's fastest automotive brand to reach a million units of sales and boasts a solid foundation for charging and battery swapping. Aion operates 7,084 DC superfast charging piles (according to the latest data from the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance in 2023) and has built 1,300 1,000V high-voltage superfast charging stations to date.
The signing of this agreement marks new expansion of CATL's battery swapping community. Since entering the battery swap market in 2020, CATL has introduced its battery block for swapping and battery swapping service solutions and actively promoted the development of the battery swapping ecosystem. On the one hand, CATL has engaged in comprehensive collaborations with local governments of cities like Xiamen and Shenzhen in the field of battery swapping for new energy vehicles. On the other hand, CATL has partnered with automakers, mobility platforms, and other upstream and downstream partners within the battery swapping industry chain to actively collaborate on aspects such as battery swapping network construction for different travel scenarios and the development of long service life battery technologies.
In the future, CATL will keep teaming up with its partners to jointly build a safe, reliable, efficient, economical, and green battery swap ecosystem for new energy vehicles, and provide users with higher-quality power refueling and travel experiences, making new energy vehicles the go-to choice for everyone.
