On May 26, four postdoctoral researchers passed their defenses at the first post-doctoral defense meeting of CATL’s postdoctoral workstation, marking a new stage for CATL’s capability of cultivating top talent.
The meeting was attended by Ouyang Minggao, Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Lu Languang and Assistant Professor Feng Xuning of the Tsinghua University, Professor Ling Min and Professor Pan Huilin of Zhejiang University, Wu Kai, CATL’s chief scientist, Ouyang Chuying, co-president of CATL R&D and Lin Yongshou, president of CATL’s E-Car solution center.
Guided by a proactive talent strategy and an open collaboration approach, CATL persists in the work of building a talent cultivating platform. In October 2018, the company obtained approval to establish a national postdoctoral workstation. It has also built in-depth collaborations with well-known universities such as Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University and Xiamen University. The postdoctoral advisors are all well-known academicians and professors in the industry. Supported by this national talent cultivating platform, CATL has been continuously integrating academic resources with industry-leading experiences as a way to deepen the partnership between universities, industry and research institutions, which has further strengthened the independent innovation capability of CATL.
CATL provides a fertile ground for cultivating scientific manpower from the postdoctoral workstation. In terms of R&D resources, CATL has built several high-level scientific research platforms, including the National Engineering Research Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies, Fujian Provincial Academician and Expert Research Center, the 21C Lab, and the Laboratory of Lithium-ion Battery Enterprise of Fujian Province, among others. In terms of industry practices, CATL has accumulated vast field experiences in the industry through years of cooperation with global automotive enterprises and energy storage customers, therefore providing a well-developed industrial practice ground for scientific research pursuits.
Based on the scientific research and technology application, CATL's postdoctoral workstation has made remarkable achievements in terms of talent cultivating. In the 1st China Postdoctoral Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition held in December 2021, the "High Energy Density Lithium-Ion Power Battery" project team sent by the workstation won the gold award in the innovation competition. Meanwhile, four postdoctoral researchers won the title of "National Excellent Postdoctoral Researcher in Innovation and Entrepreneurship".
