CATL, the Sole Recipient of the INDUSTRIE 4.0 AWARD 2024 in the Global Lithium-Ion Battery Industry

2025-01-08

Recently, ROI-EFESO Management Consulting announced that CATL's Liyang Plant has won the INDUSTRIE 4.0 AWARD in the category of sustainable development. So far, three of CATL's factories have been honored with the ROI-EFESO INDUSTRIE 4.0 AWARD, which is akin to the "Nobel Prize" in intelligent manufacturing, making CATL the sole recipient of this award in the global lithium-ion battery industry. This signifies CATL's ascension to the world's leading ranks of Industry 4.0 innovation, with the ability to provide customers with the most advanced digital and automation technology solutions.

Since its establishment in 2013, the ROI-EFESO  INDUSTRIE 4.0 AWARD has been dedicated to recognizing advanced solutions that set new standards for production digitalization and automation. INDUSTRIE 4.0 AWARD is a non-profit selection award that is acclaimed as the "Nobel Prize" in the field of intelligent manufacturing for its strict selection criteria, authoritative expert review team and strategic industry foresight. In the ten years since its establishment, the panel jury has acknowledged 37 enterprises worldwide for this honor. CATL's Liyang Plant is the first award winner in east China's Jiangsu province that excels at intelligent manufacturing, and will play a key role in driving the province's industrial chain upgrading and digital innovation.

As one of CATL's core production bases, the Liyang Plant takes the realization of sustainable development as its core goal, extensively applies Industry 4.0 technology, setting up a comprehensive sustainable operation system supported by digital and intelligent enabling technologies.

For example, to achieve energy saving and emission reduction goals, the Liyang Plant has implemented intelligent energy regulation based on an independently-developed AI-driven energy management platform, leading to a 16% increase in workshop energy efficiency and a 47% reduction in unit energy consumption. Furthermore, the plant has achieved an 18.5% reduction in carbon emissions by enhancing the helium leak detection process and eliminating the need for double checking. In regards to intelligent manufacturing, with the help of the AI detection system, the plant has increased the detection efficiency by 60% and reduced the cell failure rate to the DPPB level (defective parts per billion), ranking among the top tier in the industry. The plant has also adopted digital twins and 3D virtual debugging technology to optimize machinery design, which shortens the debugging cycle by 40% and markedly improves production capacity.

Significantly, this is not the first time that CATL has stood out from the selection. Last year, CATL's plants in Ningde and Jiaocheng were honored with the "Industry 4.0 China Award" and the "Industry 4.0 Global Award," respectively, marking the first time a company had won two titles simultaneously in the award's history. Such recognition further highlights that constant breakthroughs in extreme manufacturing and innovative production models are the key factors that push CATL to the top of the selection.

As a global leader in lithium-ion battery manufacturing, CATL has always been committed to promoting the energy transition and contributing its share to carbon neutrality targets. Currently, three of CATL's plants are selected as "Lighthouse Factories" recognized by the World Economic Forum and nine are certified as "Zero-Carbon Factories." Looking ahead, CATL will continue to take the lead in driving innovative iterations and upgrades in manufacturing models, while devoting efforts to outlining a blueprint for the digitalization and sustainable development of Industry 4.0 technologies.
