On May 23, 2023, CATL's subsidiary QIJI Energy and Budweiser Brewing Company China (Budweiser China) launched the cooperation on battery swapping for heavy-duty trucks at CATL's headquarters in Ningde, southeast China's Fujian province.
As part of the collaboration, Budweiser China's heavy-duty trucks transporting goods from its Putian factory to Wenzhou will be equipped with CATL's 513 kWh batteries, which are swappable by adopting QIJI Energy's innovative chassis battery swapping solution. A fully loaded truck can complete a 600 km long-haul route with just one battery swap, which lasts only five minutes. Moreover, these trucks can achieve a power consumption rate of less than 1.5 kWh per kilometer on highways when fully loaded, leading to an estimated annual reduction of 130 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The collaboration is based on the separation of vehicle and battery. The buyer only purchases the vehicles with the batteries to be leased. This model effectively reduces the initial costs and mitigates potential cost increases due to future battery price fluctuations.
Comprehensive electrification of heavy-duty trucks is a pressing need as they are major contributors to carbon emissions in the transportation sector. The collaboration will accelerate Budweiser APAC's pursuit of its net-zero emissions target across its entire value chain by 2040. It also serves as a successful example of the application of green and intelligent logistics technology centered around heavy-duty truck battery swapping in the fast-moving consumer goods industry.
CATL's all-in-one heavy-duty truck chassis battery swap solution boasts advantages such as zero emissions, cost-effectiveness, easy management, and long range. Currently, it is being promoted across various transportation scenarios, including fast-moving consumer goods, port container transfer, express delivery, and bulk commodities. In the future, CATL will join hands with more partners to keep promoting the development of efficient, affordable, eco-friendly zero-carbon logistics solutions, driving the transition to green road freigt transportation.
