“Star of East Lake,” an Electric Sightseeing Ship
Recently, China’s first battery electric sightseeing ship “Star of East Lake,” equipped with straight-wing rudder propellers and classified as “Green-Eco Ship-3” by China Classification Society (CCS), officially started operation on the East Lake in Dongqiao District, Ningde City, Fujian Province. It meets the highest standards for inland vessels in terms of environmental protection and comfort level.
The “Star of East Lake” is a sightseeing ship that is currently in service. It measures 27 meters in length, 6 meters in width, and has a molded depth of 1.6 m, accommodating up to 58 passengers. The ship is powered by CATL’s marine battery system and has a maximum design speed of at least 15km per hour. It is the first electric vessel in Fujian Province to be classified as “Green-Eco Ship-3” by CCS, and also the first electric sightseeing ship in Ningde City, primarily used for sightseeing on East Lake.
In addition to the “Star of East Lake,” CATL’s marine battery system is also installed in “Three Gorges No. 1,” a battery electric cruise ship with the world’s largest battery capacity, and “GBA No. 1,” China’s first large-scale hybrid coastal sightseeing ship. With the application of the above electric vessels, CATL contributes to the development of local culture, tourism, and economy with its zero carbon efforts.
CATL is the world’s first full-life-cycle solution provider for electric vessels. At present, over 500 new energy vessels equipped with CATL marine battery systems have been put into use around the world. In addition to providing marine battery systems, CATL also launched the industry’s first full-life-cycle collaborative operation cloud platform for new energy vessels and CATL’s first comprehensive refueling solution for zero carbon charging and swapping in 2023, to meet the digital needs of various vessel application scenarios and the fast energy replenishment needs of electric vessels.
In the future, driven by the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, CATL will continue to develop cutting-edge marine battery systems and solutions to contribute more to the green transformation of the global shipping industry.
