On August 11, Guangdong Ruiqing Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL-RQ), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CATL located in Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province, is awarded the PAS2060 Carbon Neutrality Certificate issued by the certification body SGS, which marks that CATL’s Zhaoqing plant has achieved carbon neutrality in 2022. It is CATL’s first zero-carbon factory focused on energy storage battery manufacturing, and is also CATL’s second wholly-owned zero-carbon battery factory after its Yibin plant.
Zhaoqing plant is one of CATL’s 13 production bases and began mass production in May 2022. Adhering to the philosophy of “green, low-carbon and sustainable development,” the plant succeeds in reducing carbon emission by energy mix restructuring, distributed PV power generation, green energy consumption, and carbon offset. At the same time, it integrates digital and intelligent technology into energy-saving technical upgrading to avoid power consumption for the ineffective operation of equipment through real-time monitoring, calculation, processing, and adjustment of equipment operation, so as to reduce energy consumption from all aspects of production.

On April 18 this year, CATL announced its plan to achieve carbon neutrality in its core operations by 2025 and across the battery value chain by 2035, and is committed to becoming the first global leading battery company to achieve carbon neutrality. With Zhaoqing plant being certified as zero-carbon factory, CATL’s carbon neutrality ambition has been further accelerated.
In the future, through technological innovation and manufacturing practice, CATL will endeavor to build more zero-carbon factories, consolidate its leading position in carbon reduction, thus driving the high-quality development of the industry.
